Jamal Adams Reunites With Carroll and Joins the Raiders

Well isn’t this a pleasant surprise? There were a few questions and concerns regarding the Raiders secondary and they went out and made a depth move. The Raiders are bringing in former Jets and Seahawks safety Jamal Adams. This move reunites him under Pete Carroll. First reporting on the move is NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.

Adams Joins the Raiders

You know what? I don’t entirely hate this move. The Raiders safety position is quite young and the secondary as a whole needs some form of a leader. That can be where Adams comes in. In fact, he now reunites with Carroll, whom he spent four years playing under.

When Adams began his career with the Jets, he was regarded as one of the better safeties in the game of football. He was sensational in the run game and was a tackles machine. Once he requested a trade from the Jets, he landed with the Seahawks and under Carroll, he put together one of the best seasons in his career. Adams was the perfect player in a Carroll secondary and was able to try and replace part of the famous “Legion of Boom.”

In his first season in Seattle, Adams had a career high 9.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and was a key component to their defense. He had another strong season in 2021, but after that things went down the hill.

Adams has hardly played a full season, let alone half a season. He went from being a constant presence in the field to being on the practice squad with the Lions in 2024. Now, he will get a fresh start and a chance to revive himself under Carroll once again. Gee, where have I seen that before? Cough, cough Geno Smith.

According to Schultz, this is the best shape and healthiest he’s been in years. Which checks out given his game logs. If that’s the case and he returns to his 3x Pro Bowl form, the Raiders secondary is in much better position. After losing Tre’von Moehrig, getting a presence in the run game is absolutely huge.

This smells like a low risk-high reward potential move, which is precisely what John Spytek has done this offseason. Excited to see what Adams does for the Silver and Black.
