Top 5 QBs in the American Conference for the 2025 College Football Season
The 2025 college football season is two months away and teams are beginning to round into form.
This includes the quarterback position, which remains the most important on the field regardless of conference.
Below, check out five quarterbacks to watch in the American Conference this season.
5. Katin Houser, East Carolina
Houser played in 12 games for Michigan State in 2022-23. He began the 2024 season as the backup for the Pirates but eventually earned the staring role. He finished with 2,006 passing yards and 18 touchdowns during a 5-1 run to end the season. Houser threw 11 interceptions, showing a slight turnover issue but if he can get this cleaned up, the sky is the limit.
4. Caden Veltkamp, Florida Atlantic
Veltkamp is one of many American passers who went over 3,000 yards last season. There is many returning players in the conference and who are new to the conference. Veltkamp was the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year in 2024 as he totaled 3,108 yards and 25 touchdowns with just 10 interceptions. Veltkamp brings his dynamic ability to FAU this season.
3. Owen McCown, UTSA
McCown began at Colorado, making three starts before transferring to UTSA. He enters his third season with the Roadrunners. Last season, McCown started every game and finished with 3,424 yards and 25 touchdowns. He led the team to its first-ever bowl victory in 2023 and that will be the goal once again.
2. Byrum Brown, South Florida
In 2023, Brown made a name for himself as he broke 12 records within the program. This includes going over 3,000 yards and throwing 26 touchdowns. He went over 800 rushing yards as well that season. In 2024, Brown suffered an injury that cut his season short. At full strength, Brown is one of the most exciting players in the American.
1. Blake Horvath, Navy
Horvath has etched his name in the story books at Navy. He tied the single-season record with 13 touchdowns while leading the team to 10 wins. After a season-ending injury in 2023, Horvath returned to finished with 1,353 passing yards and 1,246 rushing yards. Navy opened it up a bit more at times, allowing Horvath to show off his full complement of skills. He returns for another year where he could dominate the conference.
