Cleveland Browns Remaining Team Needs in Free Agency
The Browns still have to address two needs in free agency, wide receiver and safety. Neither were addressed in the NFL draft, however both positions in the draft were average at best. Cleveland did sign wide receiver Diontae Johnson after the draft, but the wide receiver room could use another addition. Currently after Jerry Jeudy, there’s Cedric Tillman, David Bell, Jarmari Thrash and Michael Woods. Only Tillman showed some promise prior to his injury in 2024. As for the safety position, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz loves to play three safeties. After starter Grant Delpit, there’s only Ronnie Hickman with extensive game experience. Christopher Edmonds is the only other safety listed on the official roster. The team did sign UDFA Donovan McMillon from Pitt, but it would be unrealistic to expect him to have an impact on anything other than special teams. There are still free agents available at both positions.
WIDE RECEIVER
Keenan Allen
After being traded from the Chargers to the Bears he showed a willingness to mentor rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. He might be a step slow but could still be a valuable possession receiver taking over for Eilijah Moore. He led the Bears with seven touchdown catches. His estimated contract could be one-year, $5 million.
Tyler Boyd
In 2024 he signed with the Tennessee Titans. He had 39 receptions for 390 yards and no touchdowns. His best years were in Cincinnati, but at thirty could offer stability at the slot position. His estimated contract could be one-year, $1 million.
Nelson Agholor
In 2024 he played for Baltimore where he had fourteen receptions for 231 yards and two touchdowns, He ended the season with a concussion missing the last two games of the season. He did play in both playoff games. Considered a team leader. Still has the speed to get downfield. HIs estimated contract could be one-year, $2 million.
SAFETY
Justin Simmons
Known as a ball hawk, he continued this nine-year streak of seasons with multiple interceptions in 2024. Has the versatility to play both strong and free safety, but with the Browns he would be a free safety. Still is an instinctual and sound defender. His estimated contract could be one-year, $5 million.
Julian Blackmon
After playing both free and strong safety most of his career he returned to free safety exclusively in 2024 with the Colts. Had three interceptions last year and seven over the last two years. His play dropped off last year due to the defensive alignment of the Colts. He’s just a good football player. His estimated contract could be one-year, $2.5 million.
Quadre Diggs
After four years in Seattle, he signed in August of 2024 with the Titans. Started eight games until it was announced he had a Lisfranc fracture in his foot. In 2023 with the Seahawks, he started all seventeen games registering 95 combined tackles, 63 solo tackles and 32 assisted tackles. The combined and assisted tackles were both career highs. If healthy, he would be an excellent addition. His estimated contract could be one-year, $1.5 million.
