Yu Darvish To Make Season Debut Tonight Vs D-Backs

The San Diego Padres pitching staff is expected to get a huge boost.

Veteran starter Yu Darvish will make his 2025 season debut tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Petco Park.

Darvish has missed the entire season thus far after being shut down during Spring Training with right elbow inflammation.

Turning 39 on August 16th, Darvish will get in a pair of starts before next week’s MLB All-Star break after throwing a pair of simulated games against minor leaguers in the last two weeks.

In 2024, Darvish made just 16 starts, missing a lot of the season with a personal issue as well as elbow problems.

However, in those starts, he was effective, going 7-3 with a 3.31 ERA in his fourth season with San Diego, after stints with the Rangers, Dodgers, and Cubs.

While in Texas, Darvish earned four of his five All-Star selections after signing from Japan prior to the 2012 season.

In 2017, the Rangers traded Darvish to the Dodgers at the deadline for Willie Calhoun, A.J. Alexy, and Brendon Davis.

Darvish started Game 7 of the 2017 World Series for Los Angeles, giving up 4 earned runs in just 1.2 innings in the Dodgers 5-1 loss to the Astros.

Following that run, Darvish signed with the Chicago Cubs, where he spent three years, the best of which in the 2020 Covid season, where he went 8-3 with a 2.01 ERA.

Now, Darvish will look to provide a boost to the Padres as they sit 7 games behind the Dodgers and tied with the Giants for the third Wild Card spot.
