WWE Smackdown: John Cena Admits That Turning Heel Was a Bad Idea
Cody Rhodes said he wanted “the real John Cena” to return, and he got his wish last night on WWE Smackdown.
Cena admitted that turning heel and aligning himself with The Rock and Travis Scott was a bad idea, especially since his teammates disappeared.
Many fans expected Cena to return to his heroic status before his retirement at the end of the year, and this may have been it.
Cena and Rhodes shared a beer in the ring, and they will battle in a street fight for Cena’s WWE title at SummerSlam Night 2 on Sunday.
TWO TITLE MATCHES
Women’s US champion Giulia is one of the few champions in WWE who didn’t get a title defense at the two-night Summerslam.
She defeated former champion Zelina Vega with the Northern Lights Bomb to retain the belt.
Los Garza (Angel & Berto) issued an open challenge for the AAA tag team title.
Mr. Iguana & Psycho Clown tried to bring the belts back to their home promotion, but Los Garza hit their MTY finisher on Psycho Clown and pinned him.
Damien Priest defeated Aleister Black by disqualification after the ref caught Black using a chair.
Talla Tonga (formerly Hikuleo in New Japan Pro Wrestling) won his first WWE singles match, beating Jimmy Uso with the chokeslam.
Tonga’s teammates in My Family Tree tried to do more damage, but Jacob Fatu made the save.
READY FOR SUMMERSLAM
Smackdown wrapped up with Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul brawling with their SummerSlam opponents, Randy Orton & Jelly Roll.
SummerSlam starts tonight at 6 p.m. Eastern on Peacock. Gunther will defend the World title against CM Punk in the main event.
