WWE Smackdown: It’s Not Easy Being John Cena
WWE champion John Cena was attacked physically and verbally from all sides last night on Smackdown in Lexington, Ky.
Cena opened the show to brag about being the unprecedented 17-time World champion. Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and LA Knight came out to interrupt.
The champion bailed out of the ring, only to be attacked by Ron Killings.
Later in the show, Cena came back to the ring and called out Killings. CM Punk came out instead to talk about their title match in two weeks at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia.
Killings showed up and attacked Cena again. They will battle in a non-title match next week on Smackdown.
KING AND QUEEN OF THE RING
Four of the five matches on the show were first-round bouts in the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments, which will culminate at Night of Champions.
Orton defeated Knight, Aleister Black, and Carmelo Hayes in the opener. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed attacked Knight, who lost when Orton gave Hayes an RKO onto him.
Orton will face Sami Zayn in the semifinals next week on Smackdown.
Jade Cargill advanced with a victory over Michin, Piper Niven, and Nia Jax. Cargill muscled up Niven for the Jaded slam and the victory.
Cargill will wrestle Roxanne Perez in the semifinals on next week’s Smackdown.
Alexa Bliss won the other Queen of the Ring bout, defeating Charlotte Flair, Candice LeRae, and Alba Fyre. Bliss pinned LeRae after hitting the Sister Abigail slam.
Bliss will face the winner of Stephanie Vaquer vs. Ivy Nile vs. Asuka vs. Raquel Rodriguez. That bout will take place on Monday Night Raw.
Cody Rhodes won the main event over Damien Priest, Andrade, and Shinsuke Nakamura. Cody hit the Cross Rhodes on Nakamura for the pin.
Rhodes will face the winner of Rusev vs. Sheamus vs. Bronson Reed vs. Jey Uso, which is set for Monday Night Raw.
ONE MORE MATCH
Joe Gacy & Dexter Lumis of the Wyatt Sicks faction defeated Motor City Machine Guns. The Wyatts are feuding with all of the other Smackdown tag teams.
