Wings Struggle Defensively In 106-80 Loss To Aces

ARLINGTON, TX – On Sunday afternoon, the Dallas Wings had a big opportunity to bounce back from a tough loss at Golden State on Friday.

Dallas opened a four-game homestand against the Las Vegas Aces at the College Park Center in Arlington, but unfortunately, things did not go their way.

The Wings struggled on the defensive end, allowing 104 points in what would end up as a 104-80 loss to Vegas.

Despite holding three-time MVP A’ja Wilson to just 14 points, the Aces had five other players in double figures, including three with 19 or more points.

Dallas held their own in the first quarter as it closed the opening stanza on a strong run to force a 27-27 knot.

Even after struggling at times in the second, the Wings trailed by just 12 at the break.

However, things unraveled in the third quarter as Dallas went scoreless for the first three minutes of the second half and eventually dug itself a hole that would ultimately result in a 26-point loss.

Arike Ogunbowale led the way for the Wings, dropping in 18 points on 7-16 shooting, but knocked down just one three on seven attempts.

Haley Jones provided a big spark off the bench once again, scoring 15 points on 5-8 shooting—this marked Jones’ 4th straight game of scoring ten or more points.

DiJonai Carrington returned to the starting lineup and put up 14 points with four rebounds and a steal to go along with it.

Teaira McCowan had what is probably her most impressive game of the season, going for a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, stepping up when the Wings were struggling on the glass.

Still, Dallas fell, dropping their second straight game and falling to 7-19 on the season, 12th in the WNBA standings.

The Wings won’t have much time to think about this one, as they will be right back in action tomorrow night for the second game of this four-game home run.

Dallas will take on the New York Liberty for the first time this season. Liberty star Breanna Stewart will not play after suffering a leg injury against the Sparks earlier this weekend.
