Where Do Fan Graphs Latest Full Season Record Projections Have The Texas Rangers?
The Texas Rangers opening month has been an interesting one, to say the least. After starting the season at a red-hot 8-2 mark, things have been a back-and-forth swing since.
Following a start to the season that has seen lights-out pitching but immense struggles at the plate, Texas sits 18-20, a mark good for third place in the AL West, five games behind the first-place Seattle Mariners.
On Friday morning, FanGraphs released their latest full-season projected standings, and they could not see the Rangers being more average.
FanGraphs predicts that Texas will finish the season at 81-81 in third place in the AL West behind Seattle (89-73) and Houston (83-79).
Undoubtedly, the Rangers would not be satisfied with an 81-81 mark; however, there could be some encouragement to draw from these projections.
It’s obvious, Fan Graphs doesn’t see the AL West as being a particularly strong division, which helps the Rangers pursuit of their first division crown since 2016.
Certainly, the Rangers will have to turn things around, as continuing on this pace will leave them on the outside looking in when it comes to the postseason picture.
However, bringing in new hitting coach Brett Boone figures to help Texas make things simpler on the offensive side of the ball.
If the Rangers can start to improve things offensively and pitch anywhere near the mark they are right now, there is no doubt that they can eclipse their 81-81 projection.
