What’s Changed Since Bret Bonne Took Over?

When Bret Boone took over as hitting coach of the Texas Rangers, he said he would take some time to observe before really digging in.

Flash forward a week, and the Rangers have won 6 of the 9 games since Boone took over and have scored 41 runs in that span.

Not only are the numbers better, but there is a significant difference in approach, and manager Bruce Bochy has taken notice of it.

When asked if he was seeing Rangers hitters go the other way more, Bochy said, “Yeah, and consequently, you’re seeing less chase because they are staying on the ball better now, I really believe that. It has cut back some of the over-aggressiveness, and you know, they’re quick enough, strong enough”.

However, despite the improved approach and the newfound offensive success, Boone’s intentionality and love for the game have rubbed off on Rangers hitters.

“Boonie’s a guy that loves baseball, and that’s going to rub off, your passion, he has a passion for it, and like I said, he’s been through everything they can ever go through. He can help out in different areas.

Not only does Boone love baseball, but he loves being the hitting coach of the Texas Rangers and everything that comes with it.

On Monday, before the Rangers homestand opener against the Rockies, Boone was out fielding ground balls with Texas infielders before the game.

Boone also frequently posts on social media, showing off the team’s wins or pictures of his jersey hanging in his locker.

“I’m really invested,” Boone said. “I want so bad for each of them to succeed”.

It’s been clear that Boone’s passion and investment have paid off to this point.
