What Does Evan Carter Bring To The Table For The Rangers?

It was only a matter of time before Evan Carter was recalled from AAA Round Rock to make his 2025 MLB debut.

Carter started the season in AAA after missing most of 2024 with a back injury and slumping out of the gates in Spring Training.

Now, a month into the season, with the Rangers offense looking for any spark, Carter will join the team for its upcoming six-game road trip in Boston and Detroit.

In 21 games with the Express, Carter slashed .221/.333/.416 with three home runs and nine RBI in 90 at-bats.

“He’s passed all the tests we’ve wanted to see, we’re excited about where Evan is”.
Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young said while speaking of Carter yesterday.

Texas isn’t expecting that Carter steps in and is the player he was in 2023, but they are looking at him as someone who can help improve their patience at the plate.

Entering play on Tuesday, the Rangers rank 29th in MLB, having drawn just 82 walks in 35 games this season.

In addition to recalling Carter, the Rangers hope that hiring Bret Boone as their newest hitting coach will help resolve that issue.

2025 will mark a little bit of a change for Carter on the defensive side of the ball. Carter is expected to get a consistent run in center field for the first time in his MLB career.

There is no doubt that the Rangers still view Carter as their center fielder of the future, but throughout his first stint in the big leagues, he mostly played left.

Carter has proven in the minors that he is more than capable of being an everyday center fielder at the big league level.

Ultimately, Texas isn’t expecting Carter to come in a save the team like he somewhat did in 2023, rather just to come in and play to his strengths because right now, his strengths are exactly what the Rangers need.

With the center field position currently being up for grabs, Carter has the chance to prove to the Rangers that he is the player that they think he is.
