What Could The Rangers Bullpen Look Like On Opening Day?

During the offseason, Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young had a tall task when it came to the bullpen.

With a majority of their bullpen innings last season heading for free agency, Texas had to build a pen without the likes of Kirby Yates, David Robertson, and Jose Leclerc.

Now, as we sit just over two weeks away from Opening Day, the Rangers’ bullpen is starting to take shape.

Let’s break down what the Rangers’ bullpen could look like when Texas takes on Boston on March 27th to open the 2025 season.

The Sure Things – Chris Martin, Robert Garcia, Hoby Milner, Jacob Webb, Shawn Armstrong, Dane Dunning – Earlier this week, Young said that six of the eight bullpen spots are accounted for, and you’d have to imagine it’s this eight.

Chris Martin will likely get the first crack at being the closer, something that he has yet to do in his nine-year MLB career.

Unlike years past, the Rangers will now have some valuable leverage left-handers in Robert Garcia and Fort Worth native Hoby Milner.

Garcia very well could end up being the 8th inning guy after he was brought over from Washington in the Nathaniel Lowe trade.

Shawn Armstrong and Jacob Webb are two other arms who could pitch in leverage if they perform, but regardless, they will be key pieces to the pen in 2025.

Dane Dunning will return to the bullpen, looking to refine himself after struggling in 2024. A stedy role in the pen could go a long way in a bounce-back season for Dunning.

The Up For Grabs Spots – J.T. Chargois, Luke Jackson, Jesse Chavez, Marc Church – Two days ago, the likes of Cole Winn, Walter Pennington, and Jacob Latz were all optioned to AAA Round Rock, making it easier to envision who could make the Rangers’ pen.

According to Young, there could be two open slots inside the competitive yet unknown Rangers bullpen.

Non-roster invitees like JT. Chargois, Luke Jackson, and Jesse Chavez look to make the team in some of the open spots. 2025 could also finally be the year that Marc Church cracks the big league roster.
