Yes, you read that right. This is going to be the most hard-hitting journalism that you’ve ever seen on this website. As a casual fan of golf, and someone who has (responsibly) gambled on Scottie Scheffler enough to be considered a minor expert on his game; I’m about to bring up a topic that has been on everyone’s mind since last weekend’s US Open.

That, my friends…..is the “Mystery Fart” on 17.

What. A. Moment! Scottie Scheffler, who was just 2-back at the time of the flatulence, was hitting from the right side of the fairway on 17. It was a miraculous stroke to get the #1 golfer in the world just INCHES away from the cup. But there was something else in the background that really caught everyone’s attention.

That…..was an errant fart. It was a random “toot toot” that had the commentators chuckling like middle school kids on a field trip, and fans across the world cackling on their couches. The problem was…..we didn’t know where it came from at the time. To some, they thought it was a fan or a media person off to the side. To others, they proposed that it could have been the wind blowing through the mics.

But this past week, on the latest episode of the podcast ‘Pardon My Take,’ we learned the TRUTH behind this sophomoric “whodunit.”

IT WAS SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER HIMSELF!

That’s right; the former Texas Longhorn apparently was the one who “let it rip” on live TV during one of golf’s most storied majors. He “passed the gas” all over the place at the Royal Portrush Golf Club, as he was attempting to complete the third leg of his bid for golf’s Grand Slam.

To some people on social media…..they thought this was disrespectful to the game of golf. To ME, I say……it was an accident. If the man needs to pop one off, let him pop one off. It’s not his fault that the PGA has super-powerful boom mics all around him. If a fart is going to slip through the cracks, then it’s going to slip through the cracks.

If anything, though……I think this just proves that Scottie Scheffler is, WITHOUT QUESTION, the biggest “dude” on the tour today. For someone who’s currently sitting at the top of his game to confidently own up to a fart like he did? That’s something that ALL OF US would do with our buddies after a round of golf…..but he did it for the WHOLE WORLD to see!

So thank you, Scottie, for being a good sport and making golf a little more fun. He could’ve easily just brushed it off, and said some “PR approved” spiel about how it probably was a fan/camera guy off to the side. But he CONFIDENTLY claimed that gas as his own, and gave us all a good laugh.

Much respect to a great golfer! But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
