UPDATE: The Shedeur Sanders Prank Call Cost $350,000

This Shedeur Sanders/Jax Ulbrich drama may be the wildest news story to come out of this year’s NFL Draft. For almost five days now, the stupid actions of a bunch of college kids have basically conquered the headlines and the airwaves. They have basically become front page news, because of how high-profile Shedeur and the rest of the Sanders family is.

But now, after almost a WEEK of coverage, it looks like this entire situation has found it’s ending point. It looks like we officially have a resolution to the “Sanders/Ulbrich” debacle, and unfortunately for Jeff’s son……he may not be seeing an allowance from his father any time soon.

$350,000.The stupidity of Falcons DC Jeff Ulbrich’s child cost his father, and his father’s employer, a total of $350,000 dollars in fines. This, my friends, has officially turned into the most expensive “prank call” in the history of “prank calls.” Not only did his childish actions cost his father a substantial amount of money……but even his father’s EMPLOYER had to pay the price.

That…..that is just next-level foolishness right there. That is one of those moments where you have to ask yourself; “what was REALLY going through that kid’s head?” He couldn’t see that this entire situation, which his goofy friends FILMED, would end up bad for him and his family? That is just NUTS!

Personally, if I was in Jax’s shoes…..I would CERTAINLY be kissing college goodbye. If I put my father’s career in jeopardy like that, I would fully expect him to force me to take out loans, and figure out how to pay them back myself. I would also never see a “nice gift” during the holidays ever again; just socks and underwear for the next thirty years.

The question that arises though is……is this a fair punishment for the parties involved? Should the Falcons and Jeff Ulbrich have been handed such a hefty fine, for an infraction that another party committed AND apologized for?

Personally…..I don’t think so? Even though $250K is really a drop in the bucket for the Falcons organization, a six-figure fine for them and their defensive coordinator seems more like a “show fine” than anything else. If you catch my drift? It seems like something that the media, and certain fan bases wanted……and not something that was really deserved.

Now granted; should Jeff Ulbrich have been fined? Absolutely! 100%! Even though it was all his kid’s fault, he still needs to hold some accountability for the actions of his spawn. But for him to lose such a large chunk of his salary in one fell swoop like that? It just seems like a steep reprimand for the moment in question.

In the end though…….is Jax Ulbrich a dork for doing this? Absolutely! Hopefully his father read him the riot act, and THEN SOME, after he found out he was responsible for what happened. But as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
