Top Running Backs in the Sun Belt Heading into the 2025 College Football Season
The Sun Belt has an explosive group of running backs returning this season.
The conference has produced an abundance of talent at the running back position over the years. In 2025, there will be a lot more talent taking the field ready to dominate in the trenches.
As we prepare for the 2025 season, we will be taking a look at some of the best players at skill positions around the nation.
Below, check out the top running backs in the Sun Belt for the 2025 season.
5. Zylan Perry, Louisiana
Perry was named Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt last season after totaling 695 yards on the ground. He is used in the backfield and on special teams for Louisiana. These numbers are expected to take major steps forward in 2025.
4. Lincoln Pare, Texas State
Pare comes in with plenty of experience as a redshirt senior. He scored eight touchdowns last season on 95 carries. Pare will take on a much-larger role in 2025 after 143 yards and two touchdowns in the First Responder Bowl.
3. Ja’Quez Cross, Arkansas State
Cross has been a major factor for Arkansas State in each of the last two years. He has put up 1,354 yards and nine touchdowns during that span. In two years, he has been given the ball 243 times out of the backfield. Cross is also a threat returning kicks. Arkansas State will feature Cross in an even bigger role this season.
2. George Pettaway, James Madison
Pettaway entered James Madison as a North Carolina transfer ahead of the 2024 season and thrived in year one. He totaled 980 yards, gaining over six yards per carry, and five touchdowns. Pettaway is a dual-threat with explosiveness that could help take his stock to the next level in 2025.
1. Kentrel Bullock, South Alabama
Is it time for Bullock to take the reins at the best running back in the conference? There will be plenty of competition but he returns after leaning South Alabama in rushing last season. Bullock totaled 894 yards and seven touchdowns. This includes an impressive performance in the team’s bowl game with 130 yards and a score, setting the stage for what could be a big 2025.
