Top Running Backs in the Big 12 Heading into the 2025 College Football Season

The Big 12 has some of the top talent in the nation across the board and that includes running backs.

The conference has produced an abundance of talent at the running back position over the years. In 2025, there will be a lot more talent taking the field ready to dominate in the trenches.

As we prepare for the 2025 season, we will be taking a look at some of the best players at skill positions around the nation.

Below, check out the top running backs in the Big 12 for the 2025 season.

10. Jaden Nixon, UCF

Nixon has bounced around during his career, starting at Oklahoma State before landing at Western Michigan last season. He rushed for 919 yards before transferring once again to UCF, where he will spend his final season. RJ Harvey is now in the NFL and Nixon will likely become the RB1 for a team that likes to run the ball.

9. Tawee Walker, Cincinnati

Walker comes in from Wisconsin after logging 864 yards on 190 carries last season. Cincinnati lost its top rusher from 2024 and enter Walker, who has experience as the workhorse within an offense. The backfield should not take a step back this season with Walker at the helm.

8. Carson Hansen, Iowa State

Hansen will likely get a major opportunity this year for the Cyclones. He was part of a three-headed monster in the backfield last year, finishing with 151 carries and 752 yards. This year, those numbers could go even higher with a bigger workload.

7. Kanye Udoh, Arizona State

Talk about a major addition for a team that is already a contender. Udoh comes in from Army after thriving in the option look with 1,117 yards and 10 touchdowns. Cam Skattebo is gone and this mean more carries for an experience and disciplined runner like Udoh.

6. Quinten Joyner, Texas Tech

Joyner averaged 7.6 yards per game as a redshirt freshman at USC. Now, he will replace That Brooks in the backfield for the Red Raiders. He is a similar runner to Brooks with a wide skillset. Texas Tech should not miss a beat with Joyner coming in.

5. Dylan Edwards, Kansas State

Edwards was the backup to DJ Giddens last season. He did not get much action in the backfield but showed an ability to act as a receiver, finishing with 19 catches. Now, Edwards will get the chance to take over for Giddens and act as the premiere back.

4. Jahiem White, West Virginia

White excelled in the offense last season with 845 yards on 149 carries last season. Rich Rodriguez is back and his run-first style will benefit a back like White. His numbers were impressive last season and should only take a step up this year.

3. LJ Martin, BYU

Martin was as good as any back in the conference last season as a sophomore. He totaled 718 yards and hauled in 10 catches as well. Martin was used a ton within the offense for BYU and that is not only goin to change. Expect it to get even heavier this season.

2. Wayshawn Parker, Utah

Parker was the 2024 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. He finished with incredible numbers at Washington State last season before entering the portal as one of the major recruits. He lands at Utah where he immediately becomes one of the top weapons in the Big 12.

1. Bryson Washington, Baylor

Washington is the top returner from last season. He rushed for 1,028 yards on just 175 carries. Baylor has expectations to be among the conference’s best teams and Washington will be a major factor.
