Top RBs in the Big Ten Heading into the 2025 Season

The Big Ten has some of the top talent in the nation across the board and that includes running backs.

The conference has produced an abundance of talent at the running back position over the years. In 2025, there will be a lot more talent taking the field ready to dominate in the trenches.

As we prepare for the 2025 season, we will be taking a look at some of the best players at skill positions around the nation.

Below, check out the top running backs in the Big Ten for the 2025 season.

10. Roman Hemby, Indiana

Hemby is one of the most intriguing backs in the Big Ten this season. He came close to the 1,000-yard mark in 2022 before logging two straight 600-yard seasons. He is now at Indiana in an improved system and an overall better team. This could be a breakout campaign for an experienced running back.

9. Kamari Moulton, Iowa

Moulton is next in line to replace Kaleb Johnson in the Hawkeye backfield. He did not get many chances last season but finished the season with 473 rushing yards. In a full-time role, Moulton can put up big-time numbers for a team that likes to run the ball.

8. James Peoples, Ohio State

The Buckeyes lost an incredible duo of runners in TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins to the NFL. Wil Howard is also gone but Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate return. Peoples logged just 197 yards last season in a limited role but will likely be thrown into the RB1 spot — where he should excel.

7. Waymond Jordan, USC

Jordan comes in at No. 7 due to his overall projections and not track record at the Division I level. Jordan comes into Lincoln Riley’s system as one of the top JUCO players available this offseason. He racked up 1,614 yards and 20 touchdowns last season. He could be next in line of great runners at USC.

6. Justice Haynes, Michigan

After the top five, it gets dicey in the Big Ten but let’s place one of the premiere transfers coming to Ann Arbor. The five-star back never got a chance to shine at Alabama but now will likely get the chance to be the premiere back for the Wolverines. Jordan Marshall will take some carries away but Haynes will get his fair share as well.

5. Darius Taylor, Minnesota

Taylor came close to the 1000-yard mark last season. The Gophers are going to rely on the ground game big once again and that means good things for Taylor. Will Taylor be among the Big Ten’s leaders in rushing yards? Do not be surprised.

4. Jonah Coleman, Washington

Coleman put up big-time numbers in his first season as a starter with the Huskies. He rushed for 1,053 yards as the starter and solidified his spot heading into 2025. Coleman has all the attributes of a Big Ten running back and is in line for another big year.

3. Kaytron Allen, Penn State

Allen and Nicholas singleton are the best duo in the nation once again. Both returned after Penn State’s run to the CFB Playoff semifinals. Allen was the perfect complement to Singleton as both runners dominated with the ball in their hands.

2. Makhi Hughes, Oregon

Hughes comes to Oregon from Tulane and has the burst needed to be successful for the Ducks. He rushed for over 1,400 yards last season and will fit into Dan Lanning’s system perfectly. Hughes and Dante Moore make up one of the best backfield in the nation heading not the season.

1. Nicholas Singleton, Penn State

There are few teams, if any, around the nation that would feature two running backs on a list like this. And definitely not this close. Singleton enters as one of the best backs in the nation and top returner in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions return their full complement in the backfield and that is a scary thing for the conference. Singleton has some of the best breakaway speed in the nation and it was on full display last year with 12 touchdowns.
