TNA Slammiversary: WWE Wrestlers Walk Off With the Titles
Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling celebrated its 23rd Slammiversary last night on Long Island.
Thanks to its partnership with WWE, including a special appearance by AJ Styles, Slammiversary drew a U.S. record crowd of 7,623.
However, TNA got “little brothered” by WWE in the ring, as both of their top championships belong to NXT wrestlers.
Trick Williams retained the TNA title in a Triple Threat match against Joe Hendry and New York City native Mike Santana.
Hendry had the match won with the Standing Ovation chokeslam on Trick, but Frankie Kazarian pulled the referee out of the ring.
Hendry hit the same move on Santana, but Trick stole the pin to retain the title.
RESPECT FOR JACY
Jacy Jayne is a double champion, and her success is no fluke.
She defended the NXT women’s title, which she had won in an upset over Stephanie Vaquer.
Last night, she added the TNA Knockouts title with a victory over Masha Slamovich after hitting the Rolling Encore clothesline.
HARDY BOYZ WIN
Jeff & Matt Hardy are still winning championships and wrestling in ladder matches. They beat TNA champions Nic & Ryan Nemeth, The Rascalz, and KC Navarro & AJ Francis to win the belts.
Bubba Ray Dudley showed up after the match to challenge the new champs to one last Hardys-Dudleys match at Bound For Glory in October.
Leon Slater became the youngest X Division champion in history by defeating Moose. AJ Styles congratulated the 20-year-old Slater after the match.
Indi Hartwell defeated Tessa Blanchard, who launched a vicious post-match attack and got suspended by Santino Marella.
Matt Cardona (aka Zack Ryder) returned to Long Island, teaming with The System to defeat NXT’s Dark State faction.
Mustafa Ali opened the pay-per-view with a victory over Cedric Alexander. Ali won with the 450 splash.
PRE-SHOW MATCHES
Enzo Amore (now called Real1) teamed with Zilla Fatu & Josh Bishop to beat Steve Maclin, Mance Warner & Jake Something.
The masked “Hometown Man” beat former TNA champion Eric Young.
The Elegance Brand retained the Knockout tag team titles by defeating The IInspiration (former WWE women’s tag team champs Billie Kay & Payton Royce).
