Tigers Prime for a Strong Month of June

The Detroit Tigers have started the month of June on the right foot taking 2 of 3 games in Kaufman Stadium, against the divisional foes Kansas City Royals. At just over the 1/3 point of the season, Detroit’s record stands at 39-21 and they hold a 6 game lead over the Cleveland Guardians. They have the opportunity to create an even nicer cushion between themselves in the rest of the Central Division if they can play up to their standards over the next 30 days.

Detroit’s month of May consist of 5 teams with under .500 records. This includes the Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Oakland A’s. Both the Pirates and Orioles sent their manager’s packing nearly within a week of each other and neither team has responded exceptionally well from it. Detroit’s toughest opponents will be the Chicago Cubs, who stand alone atop the NL Central, and have been neck and neck most of the year with Detroit as far as most wins and highest run differential. The Tampa Bay Rays sit amidst the middle of the pack in the stingy AL East division. These two series as well as 15 out of their next 26 will be played at Comerica Park, where Detroit holds a 21-8 record.

As we all know, on any given day any team (besides the Rockies) has an opportunity to win the ball game so nothing is guaranteed. But thus far the Tiger’s have managed to beat the teams they’re supposed to for the most part, and grind out victories against the tougher opponents. A solid June will certainly put them in a good standing, as they inch closer to to the All-Star break in July. In the upcoming weeks the team will be reincorporating Reese Olsen back off the 15 day IL who threw a bullpen session in Kansas City on Saturday. Centerfielder Parker Meadows should also be returning soon. He played a full 9 innings in the field with the Mudhens over the weekend, which is likely his last obstacle to overcome before resuming action in the Big Leagues.
