Three Teams That Must Trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo has had a brilliant career with the Milwaukee Bucks, with the pinnacle of his tenure coming in 2021 when he led them to the NBA title.
However, the Greek Freak’s time in Milwaukee may be coming to an end. It was reported by ESPN that Antetokounmpo would consider leaving the only NBA home he’s ever known in order for a better chance to win another championship.
Indeed, many of the NBA betting lines are already trying to predict what Antetokounmpo’s next team might be. We have three teams in mind that would be a perfect fit for him.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs’ season ended with a bit of a thud. San Antonio was in the mix for a play-in spot for much of the season before prodigal talent Victor Wembanyama was ruled out for the season with a blood clot issue. It was reported in April that the talented big man was already lifting weights, so it seems like he’ll have no problem getting back on the court well ahead of the 2025-2026 campaign.
Wembanyama’s athleticism and wingspan are two of his calling cards, and pairing him with another freakishly athletic player like Antetokounmpo would cause major problems for opponents. The Spurs could send 2025 Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle to Milwaukee, as well as a bevy of attractive picks the Bucks could use to rebuild their roster.
Houston Rockets
The Rockets surprised everyone during the 2024-2025 season. They went from not making the playoffs the year prior to claiming the second seed in the Western Conference. Houston has a plethora of young players on their roster, which makes their present and their future extremely bright.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the Rockets approach the next couple of years. They could let their current crop of talented young assets develop and see what their ceiling is. Houston could also cash in their chips to land a prize like Antetokounmpo, which would make them an immediate title contender.
Three players who might be discussed in a blockbuster trade include Reed Sheppard, Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson. Thompson ascended to new heights during his second season in the NBA.

Philadelphia 76ers
There’s no other way to say it. The 2024-2025 season was an unmitigated disaster for the 76ers. They went all in by signing Paul George to a four-year contract, but the team was beset by injuries. All-Star center Joel Embiid only played in 19 games and talented rookie Jared McCain had his season cut short by a knee injury.
It wasn’t what Philadelphia and their fan base had in mind, but they can still swing for the fences with an Antetokounmpo league-altering trade. If the 76ers were to offer McCain, the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and other compensation, it might get the team back to respectability. Philadelphia might also have to trade one of their stars to make the finances of the deal work, but it would leave them in a better place than they are now.
