This Diamondbacks Season is Cursed

If you are the Diamondbacks, you have to feel like you caught in a never ending nightmare that you just can’t wake up from. This year went from a team that could be a legitimate threat to the Dodgers in the division, to a chance they miss the playoffs entirely. It is not necessarily that the Diamondbacks aren’t a good baseball team. They are snake bitten by injury and quite frankly this season is cursed because of it.

This Diamondbacks Season is Cursed

This season was supposed to be fun for the Diamondbacks. They barely missed the postseason last year and they won the Corbin Burnes sweepstakes. Yep, they lost Christian Walker in free agency, but they made a bold big splash trade for Josh Naylor. Things felt good and the vibes were great and the new city connect jerseys they wear are truly a work of art. But this Diamondbacks season is cursed. I don’t know what dark cloud is hovering over Chase Field, but please for the sanity of Diamondbacks fans, MAKE IT STOP. Now, let’s just break down how cursed this is.

The bullpen has been a revolving door for the Diamondbacks. Numerous different players have slotted in and tried to overcome their woeful performances. The Diamondbacks rank 27th in ERA for their bullpen, which is less than ideal. The biggest issue is that AJ Puk AND Justin Martinez both had Tommy John Surgery. That’s your entire back end of the bullpen and two guys that can close games for you. And if you thought this was bad, it gets worse.

Corbin Burnes, the big ticket signing underwent Tommy John Surgery as well and these three pitchers likely won’t pitch in 2026. Wonderful. And with Burnes having an opt out after next season, his Diamondbacks tenure could be a short one. It’s not even just the injured pitchers, it’s the healthy ones. The rotation is 25th in ERA, which is very frustrating because this is a team that changed pitching coaches. You’d think they’d improve.

Instead, the Diamondbacks have two starters that have the worst ERA in baseball among ones that are qualified. Zac Gallen (5.60) and Brandon Pfaadt (5.49). One who’s in a contract year and one who signed an extension. Lovely. I love both of them and want them to be better, but whatever the case may be, it hasn’t worked out.

Offensively, the injury bug just took a massive hit. Despite the pitching woes, the Diamondbacks have one of the best offenses in baseball. They’ve scored the third most runs (406), have the fourth best batting average (.256), and their team OPS sits third in the league.

Corbin Carroll is having a career year, posting his third straight 20 HR season and has a .914 OPS (career high). He is on the 15 Day IL with a fractured wrist, so that’s a concern. Eugenio Suarez, the Snakes other 20+ home run hitter got hit by a pitch and has a hand contusion and Josh Naylor left with shoulder discomfort. Those are the three best bats in the lineup.

You’ve lost your ace, two closers, and three reliable bats. The Diamondbacks sit outside the wild card picture and it feels like a hill to climb in the gauntlet that’s the National League.

You can chalk things up to poor performance in some areas. But this team is cursed with injuries and it’s doomed their season.

Hopefully their fortunes take a turn for the better.
