They’re Practically GIVING Fever/Sky Tickets Away
Let’s cut to the chase here; Caitlin Clark is the face of the WNBA. The former Iowa Hawkeye moves the needle, and is the reason why the league saw record numbers over the past year. People may not like it, and other players (like Angel Reese) may DESPISE IT…..but it is the Gods-honest truth.
She is the reason why the Chicago Sky moved both of their home games (yes, HOME GAMES) against the Indiana Fever to the United Center. She is the reason why the average get-in price for the game was floating around $86 prior to her injury. She is also the reason why the Chicago Sky are basically GIVING tickets away to tonight’s clash in Chicago.

Nine dollars. There are seats on StubHub currently being sold for NINE DOLLARS to a professional women’s basketball game. For those of you who have been to the United Center for a sporting event before; this is a little higher than the price of a hot dog ($7.50) and LESS than the price of a beer at a Bulls game ($12.49). They are basically GIVING tickets away at this point, after Caitlin Clark went down with a quadriceps injury a number of days ago.
This is a monumental fall from grace for this rivalry, after last year’s clash saw the average ticket price hit a league-record $358. This was supposed to be “the game” on the league’s schedule. This was supposed to be their “money maker,” if you will. But without the best player in the league as their headliner……they’re basically just trying to break even at this point.
It’s a crazy sight to see. But the funny part about it for me though, is the fact that these PLUMMETING ticket prices show just how “big” of a star Angel Reese truly is. The fact that some people can go to this game for the same price as a cup of coffee from Starbucks, shows that the “Queen of the MEBound” isn’t as big of a star as she thinks she is.

I mean COME ON; who in their right mind would want to pay FULL PRICE for a ticket to see this “grade school” garbage?

It’s insanity, but it also makes sense. This is basically the same as when Aaron Rodgers got injured in New York, and the NFL over-saturated their primetime slots with the Jets. The league moved the game to the United Center to try and maximize their earning potential, and they got screwed because of an injury. Now they just have to salvage the occasion, because they don’t have a marquee name to hang their hat on.
Sure, it could still be an “interesting game” from a basketball standpoint. But no one wants to go see it. There’s no marquee names on the bill. There isn’t an “attraction” like Caitlin Clark that’s putting fans butts in the seats. This whole game has basically just turned into an “eh, we’re bored, let’s go check out the Sky” type of event.
It will be funny to see the attendance/viewership numbers when it’s all said and done. But in the end, the most important lesson to come from all of this is……”gamble responsibly.” If you’re betting on something where one little slip up can cause a major catastrophe, then it’s probably not worth it in the long run.
But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
