The Ravens Made A “Football Decision,” Released Justin Tucker

“Loop there it is!” In the 6th round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens ended up selecting Arizona Kicker Tyler Loop with the 186th overall pick. It was a big selection for the 2024 AFC North champions, who are looking to build off of their rather successful season from a year prior. But with this selection, Eric DeCosta and co. brought up a very important question; “what does this mean for Justin Tucker?”

Well…..it looks like we found our answer.

It’s the end of an era for the purple and black, as they say goodbye to (arguably) the greatest kicker in the history of the league. The former Texas Longhorn was able to last 13 years with the organization; racking up a total of five All-Pro selections, to go along with seven Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl win. During his time with the organization, he also posted a stat-line consisting of;

417 FGM, 89.1 FG%, 98.5 XP%

He has been “Mr. Automatic” throughout his career. But in 2024……things took a turn for the worst for #9. The “Biggest Boot in Baltimore” almost became a liability for John Harbaugh and co., making a career-low 73.3% of his kicks last season. It was a major bummer for a (supposed) FUTURE Hall-of-Famer…..but it looks like the aforementioned Loop may end up becoming a suitable replacement for the man.

WHAT. A. BOMB! This kid, in the middle of the hot Arizona sun, sent that football into the next area code. He put so much behind that BOOT, to the point where he could’ve probably put a hole through the stands that are behind the goalposts. Sure, his numbers were rather (pedestrian) in college; hitting 83.8% of his kicks. But to have range like THAT…..it’s just something special.

The question that arises though is; was this a smart move for Baltimore to make? Well, with all of Tucker’s “off the field” issues and the fact that they were paying him an EXORBITANT amount of money for such a mediocre performance last year…..it’s safe to say that this man’s time deserves to be over. This was the perfect “out” for the team to take, so that they could take that outrageous contract off their books.

Will we see him on another team by the end of the season? Possibly. Everyone needs a kicker. But for now…..I guess it’s time to say “TA TA TUCKER!”

But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
