The Detroit Pistons agree to Terms with Javonte Green

The Detroit Pistons are finalizing a deal to sign former Cleveland Cavalier Javonte Green to a one year agreement. Green is a versatile defender who can defend at a high level and cause havoc in the passing lane with his 7 foot wingspan.

Although he is menace on the defensive end of the court , on the other side he is an overall negative player. He is very limited as to how he can impact the game when the ball is in his hands, but in years past he has shot pretty efficiently from the outside. He does showcase the ability to get to the line, and crashes the boards well on his own end.

He will compete for minutes at the backup wing and power forward position with the likes of Ron Holland, Duncan Robinson, and Caris Levert. Bickerstaff will likely play the matchups, and when they need more size and defensive prowess elect to go with Green.  This was also possibly a response to Bobi Klintman appearing to need more developmental time to round into a better Power Forward option.

Javonte Green is another former Cavs player who JB Bickerstaff has brought on to play the brand of basketball he likes. Greene will provide depth and defensive intensity to the second unit of the front court. Bickerstaff signed Lamar Stevens last year but he saw very few minutes in the NBA with the Pistons before being let go. The terms of the contract have not yet been announced, but this is a safe move that won’t cost the Pistons much even if they have to part ways throughout the year, Green should fit right in with the main core of Detroit players. Where he lacks in the way of flare he will certainly make up for it getting down and doing the dirty work. In 68 games and 18 minutes of work per night Green averaged 5 points and 3 rebounds, while shooting 43% from the field and 32% from downtown. His efficiency was a far cry from years pass, but if he can get back to knocking down outside shots he should be able to carve out a nice role as a veteran presence off the bench.
