The Chicago Cubs’ Stars Need To FIGURE IT OUT!
It hasn’t even been a week since the Trade Deadline, and there are already fans across Chicago who are hitting the panic button on the Cubs’ season. They are scurrying around their little 728 sq. ft. apartments like a bunch of ‘Chicken Littles,’ screaming to the heavens; “the sky is falling, the sky is falling.”
It’s rather comical, to say the least. Granted, this is considered the “status quo” for most Chicagoans and their sports teams. Whenever there is a random rough patch during a season, these individuals LOVE to pull the rip cord early, and call out everyone in management for “not doing their jobs.”
I, for one, am not one of those people. I get it; Craig Counsell’s bunch is a measly 5-5 in their last 10, and 11-9 in their last 20 (as of writing this). I get that they are currently sitting three games back in the division, but are 3.5 up for a Wild Card. That is pretty mediocre. That is pretty scary for someone who has the anxiety of a chimpanzee on cocaine. But as of right now…..we should not be worried. With 50 games left in the season, and another shot at the Brewers on our schedule……there is no need to be anxious YET!
When it comes to the team as a whole…..they are in a good spot. Not a great spot, let’s not get that twisted. But a good spot. HOWEVER, there is one issue that I have with this squad that needs to be addressed……AND THAT’S THESE TWO!
Key #Cubs in the last 7 days:
Pete Crow-Armstrong: 5/22, 2 RBI, 10 SO
Seiya Suzuki: 4/20, 1 RBI, 7 SOTHIS IS AN ISSUE! pic.twitter.com/TMV91RSWsq

Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Seiya Suzuki. Two of the biggest names in Craig Counsell’s order have been two of the biggest head aches on the entire roster. One of them was an MVP candidate earlier in the season, and the other was considered “snubbed” from the All-Star game.
But now? They just can’t seem to figure out how to hit the ball. The two biggest bats have been TOUGH TO WATCH, with both individuals putting up these stat-lines over the last 15 days;
PCA: 10/43 (.233 BA), 1 HR, 6 RBIs, 16 SOs
Suzuki: 6/45 (.133 BA), 0 HR, 2 RBIs, 17 SOs
They have been shells of their former selves, with Seiya being the biggest culprit of the pair. With the way he’s been swinging the bat, one would expect that he has a dark cloud hanging over his head. You know what I mean? Just a constant storm of bad luck and sloppy play that he can never break?

It has been an ABSOLUTE catastrophe for the two faces of this lineup, and something needs to happen sooner rather than later. This offense, which has scored only 65 runs (20th in the league) over the same time frame, basically runs through these two. Craig Counsell and co. need #4 and #27 to be swinging the bats effectively, because if they aren’t…..then it’s going to be a tough road to the postseason.
Thankfully they’re sitting Seiya tonight against the Reds. But in the end, as always….what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
