Tarik Skubal Shuts down Kansas City in the Series Finale
The Detroit Tigers blank the Kansas City Royals by a score of 5-0 in the Sunday Afternoon matinee game to conclude the series. Tarik Skubal and Michael Wacha were dealing a fierce pitcher’s dual going on early, completing the first 4 innings without a single run crossing. Detroit would break the seal in the fifth, plating 4 runs in the top half of the frame. The 2 run triple by Jake Rogers and the RBI double by Colt Keith, would open the flood gates in the inning. Ultimately that onslaught would be more than enough run support for the Tiger ace.
Tarik Skubal would finish his outing hurling 93 pitches over 7 innings of work. Allowing just 4 hits and striking out 4 batters. Outside of 2 doubles from Mykel Garcia Kansas City zero imminent threat to record a run in the game. Kyle Finnegan and Rafael Montero each matched a scoreless effort on the backend to solidify the shutout victory.

The Tigers were able to shape up from a sloppy defensive showing in the previous series. Outside of home-run bug biting Tyler Holton, Detroit played a pretty strong brand of baseball. Skubal’s effort was a good follow up performance to the previous one, where he allowed 6 runs, albeit only one of them were of the earned variety. As a result of taking 2 of 3, the Tigers now hold a firm 9.5 game lead over Kansas City in the AL Central division. Kansas City has no remaining head to head games versus Detroit, and will now only be able to cling on the hopes of earning a Wild Card bid. Detroit has regained the lead overall in the American league, with a top record of 80-58. One game better than the Toronto Blue Jays. They now welcome in a star studded NY Mets club for a 3 game series at Comerica Park. New York will be looking to bounce back and falling in 2 of 3 games to the Miami Marlins. They currently trail Philadelphia by 6.5 games in the NL East.
