Tampa Bay Rays Owner Selling the Team is a Good Thing

The time has finally come and for Tampa Bay Rays fans, it’s time to rejoice. The current ownership has agreed to in principle to sell the team. An ownership group led by Patrick Zapulski is reportedly buying the team from $1.7 billion. There’s good news and not just for the Rays fans, but for baseball as a whole.

Rays Selling is a Good Thing

There is nothing more embarrassing than watching a Rays game and seeing that the entire upper bowl is completely empty. Not to mention, the lower bowl isn’t entirely full sometimes and bigger market teams overcrowd that ballpark. And ya know what? The Rays are a fun team and have players worth watching and tuning into. Junior Caminero, Chandler Simpson, highlight a young but promising group of players and let’s not forget the pitching is always immaculate. This team competes and they are fun and they deserve fans!

The problem has always been the location. St. Petersburg is the least ideal location for the stadium and the travel to the park is pretty abysmal. As cool as the stingray pool

Is, the Tropicana Field is a dump of a ballpark. This team needs a new stadium and that’s why this sell is perfect.

Zapulski has stated that he wants to build a stadium in Tampa Bay. It makes sense, as the Lightning and the Bucs are there and it would add to what’s been a very successful sports city. It’s desirable for the fans, right in the thick of the city and having a new stadium would be massive for them as a baseball team.

Fans would jampack that stadium. This isn’t an expansion team, they’ve existed for quite some time now. Road fans would jampack that stadium. But these players can finally feel the presence of playing in a great stadium in a great city and around fans that likely care.

Not to mention, they have some pretty sweet jerseys, especially the city connects. We’ve hit a point where this team would be more marketable and desirable if they played in a better situation. And who knows, maybe this group will spend money differently and operate a little different than the old regime.

It’s the dawning of a new day for the Rays. Gotta love it.
