SummerSlam Flashback: Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage Find New Partners (1989)
After the Megapowers exploded at WrestleMania V, Randy Savage and World Wrestling Federation champion Hulk Hogan recruited new partners for the second SummerSlam in 1989.
Hogan chose his friend Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake. Savage went in a different direction and picked Zeus.
Who was Zeus? He was the villain from Hogan’s movie, “No Holds Barred.” The ironically named Tiny Lister played the imposing character, and he jumped into the WWF ring as Zeus.
He seemed impervious to pain, just like The Undertaker when he debuted in 1990. However, Hogan intercepted Sensational Sherri’s loaded purse and knocked out Zeus for the pin.
WARRIOR WINS AGAIN
The Ultimate Warrior recaptured the WWF Intercontinental championship from Rick Rude.
The “Ravishing One” had used Bobby Heenan’s interference to take the belt from Warrior at WrestleMania V.
IS THIS THE NWA?
Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, and Dusty Rhodes wrestled in the first two matches, and Tony Schiavone was on commentary. They made their names in the rival National Wrestling Alliance.
Tully & Arn were the WWF tag team champions after ending Demolition’s record title reign. The Brain Busters beat The Hart Foundation in a non-title match.
Dusty defeated The Honky Tonk Man after knocking Honky out with his own guitar.
OH, THE HUMANITY!
Andre the Giant teamed up with Big Bossman & Akeem on a team that weighed about half a ton. Somehow, they lost to Demolition and “King” Hacksaw Jim Duggan.
In other bouts:

· Rick Martel & The Rougeau Brothers defeated Tito Santana & The Rockers
· Ted DiBiase beat Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka by countout
