With Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers officially requesting a trade on August 25, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a golden opportunity to upgrade their offense with a proven playmaker. Meyers is entering the final year of a three-year, $33 million deal signed in 2023, which pays him just $11 million this season—well below his current market value. Spotrac estimates a two-year, $60 million extension would better reflect his worth after a stellar 2024 campaign featuring 87 catches, 1,027 yards, and 4 TDs.

With a projected $19M of cap space still available to the Steelers this offseason per Overthecap.com, if Pittsburgh works out an extension that pushes the majority of his cap hits into future years, they could easily handle adding another higher-priced Receiver into the mix.

More importantly, Meyers fills a glaring need. While DK Metcalf anchors the WR1 spot, the rest of the depth chart—Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Robert Woods, and Scotty Miller—lacks consistent production. Meyers offers versatility as a high-end WR2 who can line up inside or outside, win contested catches, and move the chains. His physical style and reliable hands would fit Arthur Smith’s scheme which needs it’s receivers to be competent in as run-blockers. He would also complement Metcalf’s explosiveness and give Aaron Rodgers a trusted target in critical situations.

In a loaded division, Pittsburgh can’t afford to be passive with their WR corps anymore. Meyers is battle-tested, productive, and undervalued—exactly the kind of acquisition that could tilt the AFC North in the Steelers’ favor. If Pittsburgh is serious about contending, this is the moment to strike.
