Today in White Sox Baseball (May 1, 2025) — A White Sox blowout!

A White Sox blowout? Some inspiring wins on the farm? Whew, it’s been quite a day for South Side baseball.

Chicago White Sox 8, Milwaukee Brewers 0 While there have been more such wins than a year ago, it’s still a rare treat to coast to a win, which is how the White Sox wound up their series vs. the Brewers. Sean Burke was phenomenal (six scoreless innings, two hits) and big hits came from Chase Meidroth, Luis Robert Jr. and Miguel Vargas. For one day, life was sweet. The White Sox improve to 8-23.

Charlotte Knights 7, Norfolk Tides 4 Yeah, and on a day the White Sox won handily, the streaky Knights ran their winning ways to seven straight. To review, the team jumped out to wins in six of nine, lost nine straight, and now have been on top for a lucky seven running. The now-.500 (15-15) Charlotte 9 tapped 10 hits, with every Knight getting at least one safety. Omar Narváez and Andre Lipcius homered, while Kyle Teel just missed on and had to settle for a two-bagger.

Wikelman González made his Triple-A debut out of the pen after spending his entire April in the Bham rotation, tossing two innings and racking up three strikeouts while snagging the win.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos 6, Birmingham Barons 5 (11 innings) Props to Ryan Galanie (two-run single tonight), who’s gotten off to a hot start in Double-A. It’s much more age-appropriate for him, so to hit the ground running has been crucial. Starter Riley Gowens (seven Ks, no walks) was strong through five, but he and the Barons defense struggled in the sixth enough to fall back behind, 4-3. From there the game stayed tight and pushed into extras, where the deciding factor was Barons southpaw Gil Luna walking four in the 11th. The Barons fall to 12-11.

Greensboro Grasshoppers 6, Winston-Salem Dash 1 It was a miserable, 9-14 April for the Dash, and May started no differently; Sam Antonacci singled in a run in the top of the third, but the Dash bats were cold for the rest of the game. Jake Bockenstedt and the pen could not make a 1-0 hold up, understandably.

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 3, Augusta GreenJackets 2 With another strong series start, Kannapolis is asserting itself as a strongest What Sox affiliate this season. Tonight, the CBs rode Justin Sinibaldi to the win, as he threw five innings and attacked the zone, surrendering a run on two hits to earn his first win of the season. The Kanny offense rolled out just six hits, but made them count for three runs, including Miguel Santos’ first homer of the season. The Cannon Ballers improve to 14-10.
