Today in White Sox Baseball (April 27, 2025) — Meet outfielder-closer Dominic Fletcher

It was a White Sox heartbreaker in Sacramento, while the farm took three of four that included an extra-innings slugfest for Charlotte.

A’s 3, Chicago White Sox 2 (10 innings) The White Sox were thisclose to a second series win of the season, but one run wasn’t enough in extras. Sadly, with runners on the corners and just one out, Andrew Vaughn grounded into a double play. In the bottom of the 10th, Jordan Leasure served up a center-cut, first-pitch fastball with one out to end it.

Charlotte Knights 13, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 12 (12 innings) All of a sudden, the Knights are hot? Well, they took five of six in this series and whomped the RailRiders in doing so. The game started out ugly, as Nick Nastrini lasted just two outs, walking five batters and giving up four runs. But the makeshift bullpen game for Charlotte worked, because of the bats; Tim Elko homered twice and long balls  from Dominic Fletcher, Tristan Gray, and Corey Julks in the final three frames actually put Charlotte ahead. The lead was blown, forcing FLETCHER of all players to take the mound in the bottom of the 12th for the save. Yep, Fletcher’s line score includes 2-for-6, HR, three RBIs, save. The Knights improve to 12-15.

Birmingham Barons 3, Rocket City Trash Pandas 2 With Tyler Schweitzer now in Charlotte, Shane Murphy came up from Winston-Salem to serve as Grant Taylor’s piggyback starter, and that duo looks just as good as the prior one: Taylor was scoreless through three with just one hit and two walks, while Murphy almost got through four himself before trouble. All in all, nervous but successful pitching and just enough hitting lands Bham at 10-9 on the season.

Winston-Salem Dash 4, Rome Emperors 1 The Dash salvaged a win to finish a tough series hosting Rome. Tanner McDougal bounced back with a strong outing, whiffing six. Three of Winston-Salem’s six hits came with runners in scoring position, with Cole McConnell (RBI single) and Samuel Zavala (two-run homer) leading the way. The Dash are now 7-14.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans 8, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 6 Kanny spoiled a run at perfection by the farm, although they walked away with a series win at four of six. Nick Punto got jumped by the Pelicans, surrendering eight hits and seven runs (6 ER) in his outing. The offense missed opportunities all afternoon, none worse than filling the bases down two in the ninth and striking out to end the game.  Kannapolis is now 11-10.
