Today in White Sox Baseball (April 22, 2025) — Extra-inning thriller-winners

Davis Martin had a terrific start, and the Twins were a winnable game, but thanks to a terrific running catch by Byron Buxton in center, the White Sox lost again. On the farm, it was three wins in four games, including two in extras!

Minnesota Twins 4, Chicago White Sox 2 This game really came down to an amazing catch to end it, by Byron Buxton. Had the catch not been made, we’re still talking about only a tie game, but hey, the White Sox would take it. Edgar Quero, making a permanent home in the majors, went 3-for-4. Davis Martin went five scoreless innings and remains one of the stronger Pale Hose starters. Chicago drops to 5-18.

Charlotte Knights 5, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 4 (11 innings) What’s this, brilliance from Nick Nastrini? Yeah boy, the bedraggled starter went six scoreless with six Ks, against just two hits. Sadly, reliever Garrett Schoenle couldn’t hold on and hand Nastrini the win. After exchanging runs in the 10th, Charlotte got an RBI single from Dominic Fletcher in the 11th to win it. Charlotte raises its record to 8-14.

Birmingham Barons 7, Rocket City Trash Pandas 1 If you were late for the game by, like, and hour-and-a-half, no problem, at least if you love offense. This game was scoreless through six — and the Bham exploded for seven runs. Wilfred Veras homered, again, to rub it in on the Trashies in the ninth.

Rome Emperors 8, Winston-Salem Dash 2 The lone loss in the system today comes courtesy of the scuffling High-A Dash, who got Wild Tanner McDougal to see this one out of hand early. Hey, at least Jeral Perez (RBI double) is still hitting for Winston-Salem. The Dash drop to 5-11.

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 8, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 6 (12 innings) Extra-inning fever struck Low-A, as Ricardo Brizuela (four scoreless, three hits) paced the CBs to their early lead. In fact, Hale Sims entered the ninth for a garbage-time appearance leading by six — and then coughed up five runs that triggered a wild Pelicans rally to tie. After two scoreless bonus time frames, hitting hero Javier Mogollón doubled and Calvin Harris tripled to get two runs home. Just like that, Kanny evened its record to 8-8.
