Today in White Sox Baseball (April 19, 2025) — Rookie power, almost
At least it was a close loss in Boston, as rookie power could not propel the White Sox to a win. On the farm, a split decision among won-loss and close-blowout.
Boston Red Sox 4, Chicago White Sox 3 (10 innings) Rookies Chase Meidroth and Edgar Quero combined to go 5-for-9. Their teammates took a 2-for-28. The White Sox are now 4-16.
Nashville Sounds 10, Charlotte Knights 4 If this was a home run contest, Charlotte would have prevailed, with solo shots from Bobby Dalbec, Travis Jankowski, and Tim Elko. But starter Owen White (seven earned, nine hits, two homers, six Ks) alone did more damage than the homers could overcome.
Birmingham Barons 6, Biloxi Shuckers 5 Birmingham snuck away winning a squeaka, paced by a fifth inning filled with fun (phenom William Bergolla two-run double, Wilfred Veras two-run home run). All the more remarkable given that starter Riley Gowens spit the bit and got the collar before finishing the first inning; hats off to a pen that carried the day with 8 ⅓ innings of three-hit, one-run ball.
Greenville Drive 10, Winston-Salem Dash 9 (12 innings) Station-to-station offense can get the job done when the power bats are off, as the Dash proved in the third inning of this loss, scoring five. Later, Jeral Perez (who else?) added a two-run bomb. But the Drive came back on the early W-S lead, tying the game in the eighth and prevailing in the 12th.
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 14, Columbia Fireflies 4 Kanny scored in seven of eight innings, off of everything: homers, ground outs, wild pitches, even errors. The pitching was a bit sloppy, with starter Luis Reyes giving up two homers over five frames but limiting damage otherwise. You can be sloppy when your bats put up a 14-spot.
