Rockies win big 9-3 on Mother’s Day

The Colorado Rockies secured a much-needed 9–3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Coors Field, snapping an eight-game losing streak and avoiding a series sweep.

Hunter Goodman delivered a standout performance, becoming the first designated hitter in Rockies history to record a double, triple, and home run in a single game. He clubbed a three-run homer in the first inning to put the Rockies up 3-1, and they would never look back. Needing just a single to complete the cycle, Goodman stepped up with two outs in the eighth, but hit a fly ball to left field for an out. On the day he went 3-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored and is now hitting .288 on the season.

His offensive contributions were pivotal in building an early lead and the rest of the offense continued to contribute. The Rockies had 12 hits, six of which were for extra bases, including doubles from Mickey Moniak and Jordan Beck and a home run by Ryan McMahon. In total, they went 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position while striking out nine times with three walks

On the mound, Germán Márquez provided a solid start, allowing one run on three hits over seven innings and earning the win, his first of the season. He threw 78 pitches and utilized 11 groundouts to work quickly and stay out of trouble. At one point, he retired 17 straight batters, tying a career high.

This victory improved Colorado’s record to 7–33, offering a morale boost after a challenging stretch. The Rockies will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their upcoming series, as they head to Texas.
