Rockies swept in doubleheader, lose second game 11-1
The Colorado Rockies endured a tough day at Coors Field, dropping both games of a doubleheader to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, May 8, 2025. After a 10-2 loss in the opener, the Rockies fell 11-1 in the second game.
The Tigers’ offense erupted, and rookie pitcher Keider Montero delivered an impressive performance. Montero pitched eight strong innings, allowing just one run, showcasing his potential in his debut. The Tigers’ bats were equally dominant, with a six-run third inning breaking the game open. Gleyber Torres highlighted the inning with a three-run double, and Colt Keith added a two-run homer in the seventh. Justyn-Henry Malloy contributed with a bases-clearing double in the eighth, sealing the Tigers’ commanding lead.
The Rockies’ offense struggled throughout the game, managing only a single run. The team continues to search for answers as they navigate a challenging season. They have now tied the 1988 Baltimore Orioles for the worst 37-game start to a season.
Tanner Gordon, called up as the 27th man to make a spot start, provided some much-needed length for the Rockies. He ended up going 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts. Six of those runs came in a rough third inning, but Gordon settled himself back in preserved the bullpen to a degree. Still, Tyler Kinley was roughed up for four runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
With these losses, the Rockies’ record falls to 6-31, while the Tigers improve to 25-13, solidifying their position atop the AL Central.
