Rockies Stumble in Arizona, Fall 6–1 to Diamondbacks as Losing Skid Reaches Five
Behind a four-RBI performance from Blaze Alexander and a sharp outing from Zac Gallen, the Arizona Diamondbacks handed Colorado a 6–1 defeat Friday night at Chase Field, stretching the Rockies’ losing streak to five games. The loss drops the Rockies to an MLB-worst 30–85, a season that continues to test the club’s resilience.
Alexander wasted no time putting the Diamondbacks on top. With two outs in the bottom of the first, the rookie infielder rifled a bases-clearing double into the right-center gap, giving Arizona a 3–0 lead. Leading off the fourth, Alexander then sent an Austin Gomber offering deep into the left-field bleachers for his second home run of the season, pushing the advantage to 4–1.
Corbin Carroll added to Colorado’s misery an inning later. After Ketel Marte singled, Carroll turned on a fastball and launched it into the upper deck in right field for a two-run shot, his 24th homer of 2025, capping Arizona’s scoring at six.
That proved more than enough for Gallen, who rebounded from recent struggles with six steady innings. The right-hander allowed just one run on four hits, walked three, and struck out six to improve to 9–12.
Colorado’s lone highlight came in the top of the second. Making his MLB debut, third baseman Kyle Karros wasted no time making his mark. In his first career plate appearance, Karros lined a single to right field to bring home Warming Bernabel from second, cutting the deficit to 3–1.
Karros, 23, is the son of former Dodgers slugger and 1992 NL Rookie of the Year Eric Karros. He finished his debut 1-for-3 with a walk.
While the box score might suggest otherwise, Gomber did manage to work deep into the game, saving a bullpen that has been taxed during the team’s recent skid. The left-hander was tagged for six runs on five hits over six innings, striking out three and walking three.
The Rockies will try to snap their skid Saturday night with Bradley Blalock taking on Eduardo Rodriguez.
