Rockies stomped by Padres 21-0

The Colorado Rockies endured a historic defeat on Saturday night, falling 21–0 to the San Diego Padres at Coors Field. The Padres’ offensive onslaught featured five home runs and a total of 24 hits, marking their most lopsided win of the season and extending the Rockies’ losing streak.

San Diego set the tone early, scoring five runs in the first inning, highlighted by Gavin Sheets’ two-run homer. The barrage continued with home runs from Fernando Tatis Jr. and Xander Bogaerts in the fifth, and additional blasts by Jake Cronenworth and Jason Heyward. Jackson Merrill contributed four hits and two RBIs, while Luis Arraez and Manny Machado each added three hits to the tally. The Padres’ 21 runs and 24 hits were season highs as well as franchise highs, including the 15 runs through the first four innings.

On the mound, Padres starter Stephen Kolek delivered a masterful performance, pitching a complete game shutout and allowing only five hits. The Rockies’ offense was stifled throughout the game, managing just five hits with Nick Martini collecting two of them. This was the largest shutout loss in franchise history and the fourth time the Rockies have been shut out by the Padres this season.

Starter Bradley Blalock was roughed up for 12 runs on 13 hits in 3 2/3 innings, setting a franchise record for most runs allowed by a starting pitcher. The rotation now has the highest ERA in MLB history and their streak of allowing 8+ runs for six straight games is another franchise record. Reliever Juan Mejia was roughed up for seven runs (four earned) on six hits in 1 1/3 innings but Scott Alexander and Tyler Kinley combined for one run over two innings. Due to the score, catcher Jacob Stallings threw two innings, allowing one run on two hits with a strike out.

With this loss, Colorado’s record drops to 6–33, while San Diego improves to 25–13. The Padres have now won all five meetings against the Rockies this season. The series concludes on Sunday, with the Rockies aiming to avoid a sweep and snap their losing streak
