Rockies Snap Dodgers’ Streak With Walk-Off Thriller at Coors Field
The Colorado Rockies finally broke through against their longtime nemesis on Monday night, walking off the Los Angeles Dodgers with a dramatic 4–3 victory at Coors Field. Ezequiel Tovar and Warming Bernabel delivered in the clutch, lifting Colorado to its fourth straight win and snapping a ten-game skid against Los Angeles.
For much of the night, the Rockies and Dodgers traded punches in the low-scoring affair. Los Angeles grabbed an early lead in the second inning against Kyle Freeland when singles by Alex Call and Miguel Rojas set the stage, and the Dodgers pushed across two runs on a sacrifice fly and a Shohei Ohtani RBI single.
Colorado answered quickly in the third. Rookie infielder Ryan Ritter, who has made the most of his recent playing time, punched a two-run single to right field that brought home Kyle Karros and Brenton Doyle to knot the score at 2–2.
The Dodgers went back ahead in the sixth when Freddie Freeman worked a walk, stole second, and later scored on a two-out RBI double from Alex Freeland. But once again, Colorado clawed back. In the seventh, Tovar unloaded on a Yoshinobu Yamamoto fastball, sending it deep into the bullpen for his seventh home run of the season. The solo blast energized the crowd and evened the score once more at 3–3.
As the offense traded blows, the bullpen held things firm. Jaden Hill, Luis Peralta, and Juan Mejia combined for four strong innings in relief of Freeland, who departed after four frames with a blister issue. Victor Vodnik shut the door in the top of the ninth with a dominant ninth inning with one strikeout.
In the bottom half, Tovar blooped a double down the right-field line to put the winning run in scoring position. That set up Bernabel, who turned on a pitch and laced it into left field. Tovar raced home with the winning run, and the Rockies poured out of the dugout to celebrate their first walk-off victory since early July.
For Yamamoto, the Dodgers’ star right-hander, it was a tough-luck no-decision. He allowed three runs over seven innings, striking out six and keeping the Rockies off-balance for much of the night. But in the end, Colorado’s persistence and timely hitting carried the day.
The win was more than just another tally in the standings for Colorado. It marked their first home victory over the Dodgers since 2023 and snapped a stretch of dominance by Los Angeles that had loomed large over recent meetings. The Rockies, who have now won six of their last seven, are playing some of their best baseball of the season and showing signs of growth from their young core.
With the win, the Rockies improved their record to 36–89, while the Dodgers fell to 71–54. The two teams will meet again Tuesday night at Coors Field, where Colorado will look to keep its hot streak alive against its division rivals.
