Rockies secure 4-3 comeback victory on the road against the Giants

The Colorado Rockies secured a 4–3 comeback victory over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday night at Oracle Park, notching their second consecutive win and improving to 6–25 on the season. Despite entering the game with the worst record in MLB, the Rockies rallied late to stun the Giants, who fell to 19–13 and have now lost three straight games.

The game began with a bang as Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos launched a leadoff home run to center field in the bottom of the first inning,  giving San Francisco an early 1–0 lead.

The Rockies responded in the third inning when Brenton Doyle’s RBI single tied the game at 1–1. However, the Giants regained the lead in the sixth inning with RBI doubles from Wilmer Flores and Mike Yastrzemski, pushing the score to 3–1 in favor of San Francisco.

Colorado began their comeback in the seventh inning with a solo home run by Ryan McMahon, his third of the season, narrowing the deficit to 3–2 and snapping an 0-for-35 streak by the third baseman. The momentum continued in the eighth inning when Jordan Beck lined a ground-rule double down the left-field line, scoring Doyle and tying the game at 3–3. Moments later, Hunter Goodman delivered a go-ahead RBI single, giving the Rockies a 4–3 lead.

On the mound, Rockies starter Kyle Freeland pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out five. Giants ace Justin Verlander, still seeking his first win of the season, delivered a solid performance with 6⅓ innings pitched, yielding two earned runs and striking out four. Despite his efforts, Verlander remains winless in his first seven starts of the 2025 season.

The Rockies’ bullpen held firm in the final innings, with Angel Chivilli earning the win, Tyler Rogers taking the loss for the Giants, and Zach Agnos securing his second save of the season

With the win the Rockies snap a 13-game losing streak on the road as well as a 12-game losing streak in San Francisco. With the back-to-back wins, the Rockies were the last team to achieve that mark this season but also own the lowest win percentage as a team to win back-to-back games against former Cy Young winners.

The series continues Friday night at Oracle Park as the Rockies look to build on their momentum against the Giants.
