Rockies Ride Tanner Gordon’s Strong Start, Hunter Goodman’s Bat to 8–3 Win Over Dodgers

The Colorado Rockies continued their late-summer surge Wednesday night at Coors Field, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 8–3 behind a strong outing from rookie starter Tanner Gordon and a breakout performance from Hunter Goodman at the plate.

Gordon looked anything but overwhelmed against a star-studded Dodgers lineup. The right-hander worked six innings of one-run baseball, scattering four hits and striking out three. His poise on the mound helped the Rockies set the tone early, as he avoided the kind of crooked innings that often swing games at Coors Field.

While Gordon was carving on the mound, Hunter Goodman did plenty of damage with the bat. The young slugger delivered a 3-for-5 performance, driving in three runs and sparking multiple scoring rallies for Colorado. His ability to deliver with runners in scoring position proved crucial as the Rockies steadily built their lead.

Goodman wasn’t alone in powering the lineup. Every starter in the Rockies lineup had a hit, with Jordan Beck netting three hits, while Mickey Moniak, Tyler Freeman, and Brenton Doyle with two hits apiece. The contributions of each member from the lineup were a welcome sight for a club that has struggled at times this season to string together consistent offense.

The game also marked a rough outing for Shohei Ohtani, who has dazzled at the plate this year but continues to battle inconsistency on the mound. The two-way superstar lasted just four innings, surrendering nine hits and five earned runs. His command never fully clicked, and Colorado capitalized by jumping on early strikes and refusing to let Ohtani settle into a rhythm.

The Dodgers managed some offense, highlighted by Teoscar Hernández’s 21st home run of the season, but the production came too late to make a difference with two runs in the ninth. Aside from Hernández, Los Angeles struggled to generate sustained pressure against Gordon and the Rockies’ bullpen.

The Rockies have now guaranteed at least a series split with the Dodgers and will aim to give the Dodgers their first division series loss in the series finale on Thursday. Rookie Chase Dollander will toe the rubber for the Rockeis to face off against the future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw.
