Rockies outslug Diamondbacks 14-12 in much needed victory

In an exciting game in the desert, the Colorado Rockies snapped their losing streak with a thrilling 14-12 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. This high-scoring affair at Chase Field showcased a cathartic win for the Rockies, and they improved to 8-37, marking a significant win for the struggling team.

The game commenced with an explosive first inning. Jordan Beck set the tone by launching a first-pitch home run, followed later by Hunter Goodman’s two-run homer, giving the Rockies an early 3-0 lead. However, the Diamondbacks quickly responded, tying the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the inning.

Arizona continued their offensive surge in the subsequent innings, with Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s two-run triple and Pavin Smith’s RBI single propelling them to a 6-3 advantage. Despite a solo homer by Ezequiel Tovar and a two-run shot by Kyle Farmer narrowing the gap, the Diamondbacks extended their lead to 11-6 by the start of the sixth inning

Undeterred, the Rockies mounted a comeback. Facing former Rockie reliever Jalen Beeks, the Rockies rallied for four runs in the sixth with Goodman’s two-run single and Farmer’s two-run double in the sixth inning bringing them within one run. Michael Toglia’s game-tying double and Beck’s go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning shifted the momentum in Colorado’s favor, giving them a 13-11 lead.

The Diamondbacks managed to score once more in the eighth inning, but the Rockies sealed their victory with Tovar’s RBI single in the ninth, culminating in a 14-12 final score. Beck ended the game with two home runs while Tovar had five hits, coming a double shy of the cycle.

The Rockies collected 19 hits and 10 extra-base hits, including five home runs. Four of the home runs came against Arizona starter Zac Gallen who went five innings. German Marquez struggled on the mound for the Rockies, last just three innings, but the offense bailed him out and the bullpen hung in there enough for the rest of the game to seal the victory.

This win not only ended the Rockies’ losing streak but also showcased their potential when firing on all cylinders. The team’s offensive explosion, highlighted by Beck’s and Goodman’s performances, provided a much-needed morale boost as they look to build momentum in the season ahead with the series finale on Sunday.
