Rockies muster just one hit in ninth shutout loss
The Colorado Rockies’ woes continued on Saturday as they suffered their ninth shutout of the season, falling to 18-65 in a 5-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.
The story of the game was Quinn Priester, whose performance was nothing short of spectacular. He carved through the Rockies’ lineup over seven innings, yielding just one hit while racking up a career-high 11 strikeouts. Priester allowed only two walks and required 95 pitches, marking his longest and most dominant outing yet.
Early on, Priester showcased his versatility, executing a barehanded catch on a bunt by Jordan Beck and striking out Ryan McMahon to end the fourth inning. It was a breezy start for the young righty as Milwaukee didn’t shy away from providing run support early. In the first inning, Brice Turang’s infield single brought in Jackson Chourio, followed by a Rhys Hoskins sac fly to make it 2‑0.
In the fourth, Joey Ortiz launched his fifth homer of the year—a crushing two‑run shot off Antonio Senzatela, enlarging the lead to 4‑0. Milwaukee added one more in the fifth, when Turang delivered an RBI double after back-to-back doubles. Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela (3–11) was far from his best, lasting only 4⅓ innings, surrendering five runs on eight hits, including Ortiz’s homer, and issuing three walks. Although he logged his career’s 500th strikeout, this milestone did little to overshadow a challenging outing. The Rockies bullpen—Angel Chivilli (2⅔ innings) and Tyler Kinley—managed scoreless work but couldn’t reverse the deficit
Colorado’s offense mustered only one hit—a Michael Toglia single in the fifth inning. The team went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position, struck out 11 times, and though they walked four times, no one came close to crossing the plate.
The Rockies conclude the short road trip on Sunday with German Marquez toeing the rubber against Chad Patrick.
