Rockies fail to get the clutch hit in 4-2 loss to Mets
On Friday night at Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies suffered a 4–2 loss to the New York Mets, with a dramatic ninth-inning double by Francisco Lindor breaking a tie and sealing the win for the Mets.
Lindor, who had been sidelined due to a fractured pinky toe, delivered a clutch pinch-hit, two-run double in the ninth inning, driving in Juan Soto and Pete Alonso to give the Mets a 4–2 lead.
The Rockies had taken an early lead with Mickey Moniak’s solo home run in the third inning. Moniak later added an RBI single in the seventh, tying the game at 2–2.
Mets starter Kodai Senga pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out six. The Mets’ bullpen held the Rockies scoreless over the final three innings, with Edwin Díaz recording his 14th save of the season.
The Rockies had a prime opportunity in the eighth inning, loading the bases with no outs, but failed to score. A key defensive play by Mets third baseman Brett Baty and a strikeout by reliever Ryne Stanek ended the threat.
With this loss, the Rockies’ record falls to 12–51, while the Mets improve to 40–24.
Ryan Rolison served as the opener for the Rockies in the first inning before giving way to Antonio Senzatela. Struggles have been a common theme for the veteran right-hander, and while he did throw four scoreless innings with just three hits allowed, he did issue four walks. Tyler Kinley suffered the blown save with two runs allowed in the seventh and Zach Agnos took the loss in the ninth.
Ryan Ritter made his big league debut for the Rockies, going 1-for-4, becoming the first Rockie to hit a triple for his first major league hit in his first major league game. The Rockies had nine hits but went 1-for-7 with RISP.
The two teams will continue their series on Saturday with Carson Palmquist facing off against Clay Holmes.
