Rockies can’t overcome early deficit in 9-5 loss to the Phillies

The Colorado Rockies’ struggles continued on Wednesday night at Coors Field, as they fell 9–5 to the Philadelphia Phillies. This was their fourth consecutive loss, and their season record dropped to a league-worst 8–41.

Philadelphia’s offense was relentless, amassing 12 hits and capitalizing on Colorado’s three errors. The Phillies jumped to an early lead with two runs in the first inning and added four more in the third, highlighted by home runs from Trea Turner and Bryce Harper. J.T. Realmuto’s two-run homer in the sixth made it a 9-3 game.

The Rockies battled early in the first two innings to tie the game 2-2, thanks to RBI singles from Hunter Goodman and Adael Amador, but the club struggled in the middle innings with Nick Martini launching a solo home run in the fourth inning.

They did show some life in the ninth with a two-run rally as Ezequiel Tovar hit an RBI single, but was tagged out trying to advance to second. Goodman delivered another RBI single to score Amador but Ryan McMahon grounded out to end the game.

The offense had 11 total hits and struck out just seven times against three walks while going 4-for-10 with RISP. Unfortunately, the sloppy defense stung the team and the pitching couldn’t contain the Phillies’ offense.

Taijuan Walker (2–3) secured the win for Philadelphia, pitching five innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits. Carson Palmquist (0–2) took the loss for Colorado, surrendering seven runs on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings with four walks.

The series concludes with German Marquez facing off against Ranger Suarez on Thursday.
