Orioles Embarrass Rockies 18–0 in Historic Blowout Loss

The Colorado Rockies suffered one of the most lopsided defeats in franchise history on Saturday afternoon, falling 18–0 to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Looking for their third straight series win, the Rockies saw the game quickly devolve into a one-sided onslaught as Baltimore exploded for 18 runs on 18 hits, nine of them coming in a record-setting seventh inning, and silenced the Rockies’ bats completely.

Colorado entered Saturday’s contest riding a brief wave of optimism, having won five of their last seven, including a thrilling 6–5 comeback win over the Orioles on Friday. But whatever momentum they had built came to a crashing halt as they were blanked 18-0, the second-worst shutout loss in franchise history. Antonio Senzatela (4–14) started for the Rockies and struggled from the outset, allowing six earned runs across four innings. His command was inconsistent, and Baltimore made him pay for every mistake. Senzatela’s ERA climbed to 6.47 on the year.

The bullpen didn’t fare much better as Ryan Rolison allowed a pair of runs, while committing a pair of throwing errors, and Zach Agnos allowed four, while Nick Anderson coughed up five.

The Orioles were relentless from top to bottom. Tyler O’Neill added a two-run shot in the second and finished the day 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two walks. Cedric Mullins launched a three-run home run in the fourth, his 14th of the season and the 100th of his MLB career. Alex Jackson also added a home run in the eighth off position player Kyle Farmer. Gunnar Henderson and Coby Mayo each delivered two-run doubles during the nine-run outburst in the seventh.

In total, seven different Orioles drove in at least one run, and every starter reached base. It was the largest shutout victory in Orioles’ franchise history.

On the other side, Baltimore’s pitching was equally dominant. Trevor Rogers was in complete control from the first pitch, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just one hit—a single by Thairo Estrada in the second inning. He struck out five and walked one, keeping the Rockies off-balance with a steady mix of fastballs and changeups.

Aside from Estrada’s single, the Rockies had little to show for their afternoon. Ezequiel Tovar drew a walk in the seventh and rookie Warming Bernabel recorded his first career hit with a single in the top of the ninth.

The loss drops Colorado to a dismal 27–77 on the season, cementing their hold on the worst record in Major League Baseball. The two teams will meet again on Sunday, with Austin Gomber facing off against Tomoyuki Sugano.
