The Colorado Rockies suffered a tough 8–6 extra-inning loss to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night at Coors Field, despite strong offensive performances from Ryan McMahon and Michael Toglia. The game extended to 10 innings, with the Tigers breaking a 6–6 tie in the top of the 10th to secure the win.

The Rockies started strong, jumping to a 3–0 lead by the second inning. McMahon launched a 436-foot two-run homer in the first, followed by Brenton Doyle’s RBI infield single in the second. Toglia added a two-run homer in the third, giving Colorado a 5–3 lead after Detroit had tied the game earlier that inning.

Detroit responded in the fourth inning, tying the game at 5–5 with Javier Báez’s second two-run single of the night. The Tigers took a 6–5 lead later in the inning on Colt Keith’s RBI single. The Rockies managed to tie the game again in the bottom of the fourth with a Jordan Beck RBI single.

The game remained deadlocked at 6–6 through nine innings. Despite multiple chances for the Rockies with a man in scoring position. In the top of the 10th, Spencer Torkelson’s double drove in the go-ahead run for Detroit, and Trey Sweeney, who had a standout 3-for-4 night with two runs and an RBI, added insurance with an RBI single. The Rockies couldn’t answer in the bottom half, sealing their 29th loss of the season.

Despite the loss, McMahon had a stellar performance, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, coming a triple shy of the cycle. Toglia also contributed significantly, reaching base four times with three hits, including his home run. Starting pitcher Chase Dollander allowed six runs over three innings, while Detroit’s Jackson Jobe gave up six runs in his 3 2/3 innings outing.

The Rockies will look to bounce back in the next game of the series against the Tigers in a doubleheader on Thursday.
