Freeland shows quality as the Rockies offense disappears in 4-1 loss to Rangers

The Colorado Rockies’ struggles continued on Tuesday night as they fell 4–1 to the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field, marking their second consecutive loss in the series and dropping their season record to 7–35.

The game started with a glimmer of hope for the Rockies. Hunter Goodman singled to center field, bringing in Jordan Beck to give Colorado an early 1–0 lead in the top of the first inning. However, that momentum was short-lived. In the bottom half of the inning, Rangers’ third baseman Josh Jung responded with a three-run homer to center field, putting Texas ahead 3–1.

Rockies’ starter Kyle Freeland, still seeking his first win of the season, struggled early but managed to settle down after the first inning. He pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out five, and walking one. Despite his efforts, the early deficit proved too much for the Rockies’ offense to overcome.

On the mound for the Rangers, Jack Leiter delivered a strong performance. The rookie right-hander pitched six innings, giving up just one run on two hits, striking out five, and issuing three walks. Leiter’s outing earned him his third win of the season, while Freeland dropped to 0–6.

The Rangers added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning, extending their lead to 4–1. Hoby Milner relieved Leiter and tossed two scoreless innings in relief before giving way to Chris Martin and Shawn Armstrong to get the final three outs in the ninth.

Offensively, the Rockies managed only five hits on the night, with Goodman leading the way with two singles. The team’s inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities continues to be a recurring issue, as they left six runners on base and went 2-for-5 with runners in scoring position. They had managed to get the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Armstrong notched three-straight backwards K’s to end the game.

The loss underscores the challenges facing the Rockies this season, particularly in generating consistent offense and securing early leads. With a team batting average hovering near the bottom of the league and a pitching staff struggling to keep opponents in check, Colorado faces an uphill battle in 2025.

The Rockies will look to avoid a series sweep as they face the Rangers in the final game of the three-game set on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM Mountain Time. The team hopes to rebound and snap their current losing streak before heading to Arizona for a weekend series against the Diamondbacks.
