Freeland delivers quality start but Rockies fall 4-2
On Friday night at Citi Field, the Colorado Rockies fell to the New York Mets 4-2, continuing their struggles on the road. The loss drops the Rockies to a league-worst 9-48 overall and 3-26 away from Coors Field.
The game was highlighted by Francisco Lindor’s exceptional performance. Lindor homered from both sides of the plate, starting with a leadoff shot in the first inning and adding another solo blast in the eighth. He also made a leaping catch at shortstop in the third inning, preventing a potential two-run hit and preserving the Mets’ early lead.
Mets starter David Peterson pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run and earning the win. Relievers Reed Garrett and Edwin Díaz closed out the game, with Díaz striking out the side in the ninth for his 12th save.
For the Rockies, Kyle Freeland took the loss, dropping to 0-8 on the season. He allowed three runs over six innings, including home runs to Lindor and Starling Marte.
Offensively, the Rockies managed six hits. Ryan McMahon doubled in the sixth to drive in their first run, and Sam Hilliard homered in the seventh to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, Lindor’s second homer in the eighth provided the Mets with an insurance run, sealing the Rockies’ fate.
The Rockies will look to bounce back in the second game of the series on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 PM ET.
