Farmer homers but Rockies swept by Red Sox in 10-2 loss

The Colorado Rockies closed out their three‑game road trip on a sour note Wednesday, as the Boston Red Sox completed a sweep with a devastating 10–2 drubbing at Fenway Park. It marked Colorado’s third straight defeat in the series and dropped them to a 21–72 record.

The backbreaker came in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Boston erupted for five runs, turning a manageable 5–2 margin into an insurmountable 10–2 rout. Romy González and CF Jarren Duran both went deep in the frame — González launched a two‑run homer off Seth Halvorsen later followed by a three-run homer by Duran.

Entry through the opening frames remained a pitcher’s game thanks largely to Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito, whose vintage outing stifled Colorado’s hitters for six clean innings. Giolito struck out six, surrendered just four hits, walked none, and improved to 6–1 on the season.

On the Rockies’ mound, veteran Antonio Senzatela struggled early. Boston got to him first—and early. Carlos Narváez drilled a solo shot in the second inning, followed by Wilyer Abreu’s two‑run homer in the fifth. Senzatela exited after five frames, having yielded four runs on eight hits. His record fell to 3–13.

Offensively, Boston showed no mercy: four homers from four different players—Narváez, Abreu, González, and Duran. Masataka Yoshida, returning from a shoulder injury, delighted fans in his first official action since October, going 3‑for‑4 with a double and an RBI single.

The only glimmer for Colorado came in eighth inning when veteran Kyle Farmer swatted a two-run home run, his fourth of the year. The team had eight hits with Tyler Freeman, Jordan Beck, and Michael Toglia each contributing two. The Rockies struck out seven times and had no walks in the game.

Colorado has an off-day on Thursday before rounding out the first half with a three-game set in Cincinnati starting Friday.
