Beck homers twice in Rockies game 2 loss
The Colorado Rockies’ struggles continued on Thursday as they suffered a 6-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals in the second game of a doubleheader at Kauffman Stadium. This defeat completed a series sweep for the Royals and marked the Rockies’ 13th consecutive road loss, tying a franchise record.
Rookie pitcher Chase Dollander took the mound for Colorado but faced challenges early on. He allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings, raising his ERA to 7.91. The Royals capitalized in the fifth inning with a rally that included an RBI single from Bobby Witt Jr., extending his hitting streak to 16 games, and a two-run double by Salvador Perez.
Offensively, the Rockies were led by Jordan Beck, who hit solo home runs in the sixth and eighth innings, accounting for all of Colorado’s runs in the game. Beck’s performance was a highlight in an otherwise challenging game for the Rockies’ lineup, which left 10 runners on base.
On the Royals’ side, Michael Lorenzen delivered a strong pitching performance, allowing just one run over six innings and striking out seven. The Royals’ offense was balanced, with contributions from multiple players, including Vinnie Pasquantino and Michael Massey, who each drove in runs.
With this loss, the Rockies’ record fell to 4-20, the worst start in franchise history. They will look to rebound as they return home to face the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. Meanwhile, the Royals improved to 12-14 and will host the Houston Astros in their next series.
