Rockies drop Game 1 of doubleheader 10-2

In Game 1 of today’s doubleheader at Coors Field, the Detroit Tigers dominated the Colorado Rockies with a 10–2 victory, extending the Rockies’ losing streak to five games.

The Tigers wasted no time, scoring nine runs in the first three innings. Andy Ibáñez’s RBI double and Spencer Torkelson’s RBI single in the first inning set the tone. Gleyber Torres added an RBI single in the second, followed by a sacrifice fly from Ibáñez and a two-run double by Torkelson, pushing the lead to 7–0 before adding two more in the third thanks to singles from Trey Sweeney and Justyn-Henry Malloy.

Detroit continued to pile on, with Javier Báez contributing an RBI single in the seventh inning to put the Tigers up 10-1 as their offense was relentless, capitalizing on Colorado’s pitching struggles and some defensive miscues.

On the mound, Casey Mize delivered a strong performance for Detroit, pitching six innings, allowing just one run on three hits, and striking out eight. Kyle Freeland started for the Rockies but was unable to contain the Tigers’ bats, leading to an early deficit that Colorado couldn’t overcome. He lasted just three innings, giving up nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits. The Rockies did get a strong bullpen performance from Angel Chivilli, who allowed one run through 3 2/3 innings, and Juan Mejia who went 2 1/3 with five strikeouts.

The Rockies managed to score two runs, one in the fifth and another in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough to challenge Detroit’s commanding lead. With this loss, Colorado’s record falls to 6–30, while Detroit improves to 24–13.

The teams are set to face off again shortly in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
